With the imminent arrival of the Metaverse, all eyes are on the future of virtual spaces. We’re already seeing technologies starting to jostle for position to become part of our day-to-day life in this new world.
From virtual art assets and real estate to entertainment and events, here are just 5 companies making virtual waves that caught our attention at Grammatik Towers in recent weeks.
1. HTC Vive
So what are the actual applications of the Metaverse? Well, last week HTC Vive shared their vision of our virtual future. Releasing a ‘Day in the Metaverse’ video, Vive took the chance to show off proof of concept for upcoming HTC tech products.
Showing off the ‘Viverse’, HTC displayed a number of future products and concepts that highlight the ever-growing potential of adopting virtual technologies. From exercise programmes with health displays to meeting friends around the world in virtual coffee shops, HTC’s Vive vision of the future is certainly one that paints an interesting picture.
2. Voxon Photonics
Voxon Photonics is a small but powerful Australian developer responsible for building the world’s first three-dimensional volumetric display. Still in development, the display shows enormous potential for its applications across various industries.
From an engineering meeting to somebody’s bedroom, the display houses an entire market of untouched virtual interaction. Its uses for both education and science could be revolutionary, allowing users to visualise data, recreate physics using complicated AI and interact through a virtual asset with people across the globe.
Be interesting to see how this sort of ‘real world’ volumetric display tech integrates with a vision of the metaverse requiring headsets or glasses.
3. Hugo Boss and Virtual Influencers
With our work and social lives taking a virtual trajectory, it’s hard to see how brands can stay out of the equation. For Hugo Boss, they’re already one step ahead. Launching their SS22 campaign last month, Boss revealed their partnership with two virtual influencers, Imma and Nobody Sausage.
Hugo Boss’s CEO, Daniel Grieder, said ‘It is our aim to excite new and younger target groups and turn them into fans of our brand’. It’s clear that Hugo Boss is rebranding as a tech-first company ready for the digital age. It’s a line that can continue to develop new ways of interacting with fans into the future.
Whilst not officially announced by Hugo Boss, the ability to meet and interact with its virtual influencers through the Metaverse and VR is something that would be possible sooner than people realise, giving Hugo Boss a new and unparalleled ability to interact with its customer base.
4. Matterport
Matterport is one of the world leading spatial data platforms. As companies around the world have adapted to Covid-19, Matterport took the leap into the virtual world. Its innovative software design allows users to interact seamlessly with spaces like retail and real estate.
Matterport’s all-in-one 3D capture solution allows any business to easily transfer their physical spaces into digital assets that can be viewed, edited and changed from around the world. Providing the ability to measure accurately and make notes, collaborating to build or view spaces virtually has never been easier.
5. Microsoft Mixed Reality for Healthcare
In usual Microsoft fashion, the tech-giant has stepped into the virtual world with a forward thinking approach for the better. Targeting mixed-reality, Microsoft is pioneering a new industry standard for healthcare based on 6 pillars.
ApoQlar, HoloForge, HoloLab, Medivis, Synergiz and Visual 3D make up Microsoft’s new approach. The tech will allow users to train, operate and see complicated healthcare issues through the lens of mixed reality. The aim is to reduce costs dramatically by allowing healthcare professionals to view surgeries and practice in a safe and secure environment.
The technology also seeks to revolutionise the physician-patient experience by allowing more contextualised conversations driving a drastic improvement over traditional consultancy.
