Producing the Epic Games Field Guide

The Project

Epic Games asked the Grammatik team to help produce the latest in its series of Field Guides to coincide with its Broadcast & Live Events Week in October 2022. 

An industry first, the Broadcast & Live Events Field Guide features insights from content producers for sports and esports broadcasts, live concerts, weather reporting, live LED installations, and more, explaining how they are using Epic’s real-time technology to make their projects shine.

The Approach

With a timeline spanning several months, and a project with lots of moving parts and stakeholders, we created an action plan for delivering each section of the guide.

The Grammatik team then conducted multiple interviews with industry leaders and experts, including The Famous Group, Moment Factory, and Illuminarium. The insights gleaned from these interviews helped to inform our writing, providing real-world examples of how Epic’s clients are using Unreal Engine’s real-time technology to produce immersive and engaging experiences in the broadcast and live events space.

As well as producing the written copy for the guide, we also worked with Epic’s in-house production team, providing feedback on layout and helping to secure all of the necessary visual assets and permissions.

With weekly client catch-ups to keep things on track, we were able to ensure that the copy was delivered in time to meet the publishing deadline set out at the start.

The end result was a comprehensive guide featuring exclusive industry insights, techniques for real-time workflows, and guidance on building a team to make the switch to a real-time environment.
